The Adventures of Jonny Quest TV Series 1964 - 65

For those of you too young to have seen it, “Jonny Quest” was the name of an animated science fiction adventure series that aired from 1964 to 1965 with two reboots in 1986 & 1992. The series was created by the Hanna-Barbera Production company which featured the ten year old Jonny Quest, his scientist father Dr. Benton Quest, Race Banyon, something of a mercenary baby sitter, his Indian friend Hadji and a dog of indeterminate species named Bandit which served primarily as an irritating comic relief.

Most of the stories were science fiction in nature which (at that time) was right up this mid teen's alley and the animation was fairly realistic as compared to the cartoonish “The Flintstones” and “The Jetsons”, which were also Hanna-Barbera Productions.

The only Jonny Quest related kit out there (that I am aware of) is of their pretty neat looking jet plane which they'd use to fly from one adventure location to another but this section of OEGOC isn't about that.

The opening credits of the Jonny Quest program showed a collection of scenes from upcoming episodes which served as a pretty good teaser for things to come although I can't remember any show that had a flying pteranodon in it. In any case, it was memorable and fun to watch.

I have recently discovered a STOP MOTION version of this opening which is extremely well done. It is almost a perfect copy of the original with slight changes to a few of the characters due to the limitations of stop motion animation. This fine piece of work was done by Roger Evans and Brandi McAlister. I have provided YouTube scenes below for the original standard animation opening sequence along with the stop motion versions below. Be sure to turn on your PC speakers and enlarge the image to fill the screen to get the full effect. Enjoy

You're right, Shawn, it is a Pteranodon! I'll have to edit the write up. Thanx for mentioning it. BTW, I STILL don't remember the episode!

Turu the Terrible was the pterodactyl episode. It’s in my top three along with the Invisible Monster, and the Robot Spy episodes.

Oops got caught up in the posters wording. Turu was a Pteranodon not a Pterodactyl.
