Mrs. Bates from Psycho (1960)

Psycho's

Psycho's "mommy dearest" before it became a thing.

I recently stumbled across this kit on eBay which was originally, from what I can determine, a limited run only available from the Monsters In Motion web page store. This 1/6 scale resin kit was sculpted by Chris Elizardo and is loaded with detail. This very nice cast had a total of six pieces and required next to no clean up, a pleasant change from what I've been encountering lately.

Mrs. Bates aka

Mrs. Bates aka "Mother" in all her glory.

Since the film on which it is based was shot in black & white, I had a lot of latitude in my choice of colors. I went on the Goggle machine and did a search for “old woman's clothing” to get an idea of what would look appropriate for Mrs. Bates. I ended up choosing my own color scheme with a blue and pink knitted shawl and a medium gray skirt. For her flesh tones, I used the pretty much the standard mummy (pardon the pun) hues and her hair was silver gray. The base and chair were painted a flat medium gray & brown respectively.

This is a a very nice kit based on a film that really doesn't get that much exposure in the hobby and a welcome addition to my every growing collection. 9/3/22
