Halloween - Michael Myers

As some of you probably know, “Halloween” was a ground breaking horror flick from1978 directed and scored by John Carpenter which essentially was a springboard for his career in film. Since its release, many of the senseless teen slaughter flicks such as “Friday the 13th”,Nightmare On Elm Street” along with their seeming endless sequels and imitators have slashed their way across cinema screens for decades. I must admit that I found “Halloween” an interesting entry into the horror genre but I soon grew tired of its unoriginal clones.

This Moebius Model kit has 40 parts (including the LED light assembly) molded in a light gray plastic. Assembly was pretty straightforward although I found the quality average as compared to other Moebius kits I have built. The kit's seam lines were quite obvious and abundant. Also, I found that 90% of the pins used to hold the model together were too largefor their corresponding holes which I had to drill out for them to fit. Not a big deal in itself but more of an annoyance than anything else.

I pretty much followed the suggested color scheme the instructions provided although I ended up painting the the porch floor and part of ther ailings burnt sienna though any color could be used I suppose. I used a black wash to bring out the wood grain detail on the horizontal wood surfaces.

I dove into my model railroad scenery stash and fashioned two small bushes out of Woodland Scenics tree armatures and shredded green foam and placed them on either side of the steps.

I managed to lose the mail box to be mounted on the right side of the porch post but I quickly made a replacement out of a small

piece of wood. I painted it gloss black to look like metal and added my actual house number on it with silver decal numbers.

Before securing the jack-o-lantern to the steps, I made sure that the hole for mounting the flickering orange LED was large enough (it wasn't) to accommodate it. I then used Velcro (not provided) to mount the battery pack/switch on the underside of the porch, keeping in mind that the battery pack should be easy to get at to change the batteries as needed.

The Michael Myers figure was pretty obvious to make though I ran into the pin issue and many seams lines I had to grind down before painting. The head/neck assembly didn't fit too well so I ended up using UV activated glue to fill in the larger gaps on either side of the collar. I painted the figure's jumpsuit a medium gray followed by a black wash to bring out the stitched seams and the like.

As I said, I found this kit to be average in quality as well as design. The previously mentioned over sized pin issue was an easy fix. On the other hand, the ends of the porch were left exposed showing connection points and the like.  Why Moebius didn't provide a pair of lattice sections to cover the ends and give a more finished appearance would have been an inexpensive fix IMHO.  I ended up cutting short sections of stirring sticks that I painted white. I painted the exposed ends black and glued the wood pieces in place spaced evenly. 5/5/2024
